Students in 6th grade math models are working on their final project for the trimester. They were asked to use 3D shapes to design a pool. They needed to find the volume of water in the pool. Then they were asked to build scale models from cardboard. Lots of measuring, cutting, and teamwork happening. #OneComet

Our students in Mrs. Mandrelle’s Math Models class had a unique opportunity last week. They recently finished our food truck project in which the students presented their ideas for a food truck. This was based on the TV show, Shark Tank, where Cousins Maine Lobster pitched their idea to the sharks.
Our class was able to zoom with the original cousins from the company. Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac spoke directly with the students about their now multimillion dollar business. Both Sabin and Jim fielded questions from the students about how they got started in the business, what challenges they had to overcome, and how they are able to run a successful business. We also laughed a lot! These 2 have a great sense of humor! They really helped make this project a successful learning experience for the students.
Huge shout out to Cousins Maine Lobster for supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs!!

Comet families! The Great Start Readiness Program is holding a “Winter Fun” event this coming Sunday afternoon at our central office building (115 East St). It will be from 2:00-3:00. Families will build snowmen, snow angels, snow painting, sledding, etc. Come on out!

Thank you to all our students who participated in our school spelling bee, you all did an excellent job. Congratulations to Marshall Baker who is the JMS spelling bee champion! He will have the opportunity to compete at the district level.

Our 6th grade Math Models class had a great day today. We have been working on a basic small business plan based off of the show “Shark Tank.” The students set up a food truck by researching various costs such as ingredients, equipment, trucks, etc . They also had to determine cost, customer price, profit for their meals. They all made wonderful presentations to our “sharks” of Jonesville. It was great seeing how the kids responded under pressure.
Thank you to our “sharks,” Mr. Wittigen (our instructional assistant), Mr. Kennard (our principal), Mr. Weatherwas (our superintendent), Mrs. Groves (our local businesswoman & school board member), and Dr. Nunez (our school counselor). They were a great audience who asked great questions that challenged our students to think deeper!
The final winning group was “Yaki Maki” created by Channing, Genesis, and Kallie. They had the most sound business plan. SUSHI is coming to Jonesville!! :) Congratulations to all of our Math Models students for developing lifelong skills.
